Male Breast Reduction | Scottsdale, AZ

A patient of any age with gynecomastia may be embarrassed when their chest is uncovered. Gynecomastia is a male condition that produces swelling and enlarged breast tissue making them look more feminine. This is caused by a hormonal imbalance, often starting in puberty and lasting into adulthood. A male breast reduction surgery by Scottsdale, AZ board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Carlos Mata, can correct gynecomastia by reshaping the chest to have a more masculine appearance. In the operating room, Scottsdale Gynecomastia specialist Dr. Carlos Mata, a.k.a. Dr. Scottsdale® implements a minimally invasive approach using Vaser Liposuction ( ultrasound technique), and the one stitch technique to reduce the appearance of scars. Magic Tight® can also be added to the procedure to treat and prevent skin laxity.

One Stitch Gynecomastia Surgical Technique

Gynecomastia by Dr. Scottsdale® means that almost no one will be able to notice you had surgery done! The scars are hidden and smaller than a pinky. The procedure is done under IV conscious sedation (light sedation) in our surgical office in Scottsdale, AZ. The procedure is an overall chest transformation including:

  • Tumescent Vaser Liposuction

The surgical technique of Lipo used by Scottsdale Liposuction specialist, Dr. Carlos Mata always follows the three-step technique. This three-step technique allows liposuction to be performed safely with minimal scarring while giving smoother results, and a faster recovery. The first step is tumescent, a numbing solution used to numb the entire chest to control bleeding, and reduce pain during & after surgery. The second step is Vaser, an ultrasound device that breaks down fat cells and breast tissue. This device helps improve liposuction results and allows Dr. Scottsdale® to use only one small incision to remove the breast tissue partially melted from Vaser. The last step is assisted lipo: a cannula connected to a vacuum to suction the fat and breast tissue from the chest. These three steps will break down and remove most of the breast and fatty tissue from the chest, but extra gland tissue needs to be removed manually.

  • Manual Breast/ Gland Tissue Removal

The gland tissue that was not eliminated via Tumescent Vaser Lipo will be manually removed by Dr. Scottsdale® with specific surgical instruments. The tissue is removed through a small incision smaller than a pinky is placed on the areola (colored part of the nipple). This allows the patient to have great results and a flat chest.

Add-on Available: Magic Tight®

Magic Tight® is a skin tightening treatment that is recommended to treat skin laxity. Depending on how much extra breast tissue the patient has on his chest, the skin tightening will be advised to avoid major incisions, prevent skin laxity, and/or give the best long-term results possible. Dr. Scottsdale® uses J-Plasma, a cold plasma energy, and radiofrequency device to tighten the skin with minimal scarring. Learn more

Male Breast Reduction FAQ

Is this Gynecomastia?

This condition must not be confused with false gynecomastia, also known as pseudogynecomastia, in which the enlargement is caused by fat deposits instead of breast tissue development. The plastic surgeon will be able to determine this by physical examinations or lab tests during the initial consultation. If it is a case of excessive fat tissues on the chest, the approach in treatment is the same when removing excess fat tissues in any part of the body. Proper diet and exercises are initially recommended before considering any surgical treatment. However, if the issue persists, liposuction – sometimes even combined with a lift – may be performed to reshape the chest.

Will my pecs show?

Gynecomastia, unfortunately, hides the normal chest muscles that lie underneath the layers of overdeveloped breast tissue. For those who have severe gynecomastia, it is even possible that the overgrowth of breast tissue has developed into internal scarring. With a breast reduction surgery, all excess fat and breast tissues will be removed and the pectoralis muscles will be spared so that they may become more visible. With proper diet and exercise after the surgery, men will be able to tone and strengthen their chest muscle to regain the chest’s natural form.

Is lipo a must?

Liposuction is the primary approach in extracting fat or any soft tissues. Because it uses a small cannula to vacuum the fat out, it is a less invasive approach compared to excising the tissue, which requires longer incisions. There are liposuction options that are even less invasive. These options will be provided with more details prior to the surgical plan so the patient can consider all factors and ultimately decide which technique is preferred.

Will be there be scars?

If the breast reduction technique uses liposuction, the incisions will be minimal and will be placed around or near the areola. The plastic surgeon will make every effort when it comes to making the incisions and suturing to minimize the effects of scarring.
