Breast augmentation with saline Implants

Saline implants are silicone shells implants filled with a sterile saltwater solution. Any potential leakage does not pose a threat as the solution is safely absorbed by the body. The implant's size varies from 100cc to 800cc. The best candidates for saline implants are women with average-sized breasts that want to either add additional volume or improve symmetry. Those who opt for this type of implant must be at least 18 years old.

Breast Augmentation with Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone breast implants are very popular today. Silicone implants are silicone shells prefilled with silicone gel. It comes in different sizes, shapes, and textures. Dr. Carlos Mata only uses smooth implants. You can find sizes from 100cc to 800cc in different profiles like high, moderate, low. The breast implants profile is chosen depending on the patient’s goals. The best candidates for silicone breast implants are women over 21 years old and look to add volume, cleavage, and/or side boob to their breast. Checklist.

Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer

For patients who desire fuller breasts but do not want an artificial implant to achieve this look, fat transfer to the breast is a great alternative. In this procedure, Dr. Scottsdale® will harvest fat from donor sites of the patient, such as the flanks, abdomen, and thighs via liposuction. The fat will be reinjected into the breasts with small syringes to add volume. Fat Transfer to the breast results will be on average a gain of one cup size.

Breast Augmentation different incisions and placement

The dual-plane Breast Augmentation with implants

The two most common breast implants placements are either on top of the chest muscle or under it. Dr. Carlos Mata aka Dr. Scottsdale® uses a different method: the dual-plane breast augmentation for better and long-lasting results. Dual-plane breast augmentation means the implants are placed above and under the pectoralis muscle. This technique allows fewer complications, a more natural look especially for thin patients with small breasts and reduces the drop of the implant and appearance of wrinkles on the upper part of the breast.

Most common Breast Augmentation with implants incision

There are several standard incisions used by plastic surgeons in Scottsdale, Arizona for breast implants augmentation. The most common is known as an inframammary incision, which is an incision near the breast fold. Second, is an incision made under the areola, which is known as a periareolar incision. A third option is to place the incision within the armpit, known as a transaxillary approach. But this last technique can damage nerves and cause tissue damage, this is why Dr. Carlos Mata only focuses on the breast fold and areola incisions.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

Is breast augmentation painful? Will I really recover fast from a boob job? Would I be able to go back home after surgery? This is all questions women have before getting a breast augmentation. After surgery, you will be able to go home right away. Follow-ups appointment will be scheduled with Dr. Scottsdale® to assure your recovery. The intensity and duration of pain vary with individuals. After the procedure, most women feel tired and sore for a few days. Usually, patients are able to return to normal activity after about one to two days. There will be bruising and swelling, and a compression support bra will also be worn to help in healing. Exercise should be avoided for at least 6 weeks. It takes approximately 6 months for the breasts to look, feel, and function normally in regards to softness, sensation, and final placement.

Most asked questions about breast augmentation

What are my options for breast augmentation?

Breast size can be increased by different surgical techniques such as fat transfer and/or breast implants.

How can I choose the best implant size?

Breast implants come in different shapes, forms and sizes, sometimes making your choice of implants challenging. Here are the different breast implant options:

  • Types of implants, you can choose from silicone or saline. Silicone implants are implants filled with silicone gel. The gel feels a bit more like natural breast tissue. Saline implants are made with an outer silicone shell that is filled with sterile salt water. They feel more firm than your breast tissue, and can be overfilled.

  • Types of shell, at natural results plastic surgery we are not offering textured implants. Textured implants stick to the breast by creating scar tissue, making them less likely to move around. But in 2021, they were associated with BIA-ALCL, a cancer of the immune system. We are currently offering breast implants with a smooth shell.

  • Types of profiles, silicone implants come in different types of profile: Ultra High, High, Moderate Plus, Moderate, and Low Profile. Implant profile determines how much your implant will project forward from the chest wall when standing. For example, a high profile will stick out more forward than a moderate profile, but a moderate profile will give you better cleavage. The profile choice is based on your chest, measurements and goals.

  • Sizes, silicone and saline implants offer a range sizes from 100cc to 800cc. Saline implants can be overfilled allowing you to achieve a bigger size.

  • Vectra 3D, to help you with your decision, we are offering complimentary 3D imaging of your breast during your consultation(s). You will be able to visualize your breast with different implant sizes and profiles.

Should I wait to have a breast augmentation until after I have kids?

Hard question to answer, as pregnancy and breastfeeding will most likely affect the appearance of your breast implants. Your breast results will be most likely altered. But if you plan on having kids in ten years, do you really want to wait that long to get a breast augmentation? Ideally, Dr. Mata recommends waiting before undergoing a breast augmentation if you are planning to have kids in the next year to two years. But again, it’s your body and your decision.

Can you breastfeed after a breast augmentation?

In general, women choosing breast augmentation at our practice will continue to be able to breastfeed. In more extensive surgeries, the ability to breastfeed may be lost. Whenever possible, Dr. Carlos Mata aka Dr. Scottsdale® seeks to retain the full functionality of the nipple and breast glands. If this is a concern for you, please talk with Dr. Mata more about your breastfeeding issues.

What is the difference between putting implants under and over the muscle?

Under and over the muscle are the most two common breast implants placement positions. Over means placing implants on top of the chest muscle, and under means placing implants under the muscle. With placing the implant above the muscle you increase the risk of rippling, visible folds or wrinkles. With placing the implant under the muscle you increase the risk of animation deformity (implant will move when contracting your muscle during exercising, etc.). We offer a different technique: the dual-plane breast augmentation. It means the implants are placed partially above and under the pectoralis muscle at the same time allowing fewer complications, a more natural look and reducing the drop of the implant.

Do my breast implants need to be replaced every 10 years?

Actually, breast implants don’t need to be replaced every 10-15 years, they only need to be replaced if you have a problem like implant rupture or capsular contracture. In 2011, the FDA released a report on the safety of silicone breast implants where it shows that after 10 years, 1 out of 5 patients need some sort of revision procedure. The revisions are needed due to excessive scarring, and/or implant rupture. But keep in mind that since this study newer implants like gummy bears have made their appearance.

What is the difference between “gummy bear” and regular silicone implants?

The difference between gummy bear and regular silicone implants is based on the consistency and thickness of the silicone gel. Gummy bear implant gel is thicker, firmer and more cohesive meaning if your implant ruptures the risk of leakage/spreading outside of the shell is lower than regular silicone implants, as the gel is thicker.
